CORINNE COLLADO

"Fashion is big in NYC and there are more than a handful of content creators really embodying the art of expressing through clothes. In the midst of the mosaic of Upper East Side glamorous influencers and Brooklyn based fashion stylists with an incredible taste, Corinne Collado caught our eye".
You just spent 30 minutes doom scrolling on TikTok, patiently but impatiently waiting for the subway to stop at your station so you can get on with your day. After what seems like 2 hours, when in reality it has only been 30 thanks to our overstimulated nervous systems and decrepit attention spans, the train halts. The doors open, a motley crowd walks in, you make your way out. As you go up the stairs and out of the station you are greeted by a warm breeze and a peculiar smell- base notes of freshly cooked hotdogs wafting through the air from the nearest cart laced with a sense of intense urgency radiating from every pedestrian, the scent is called New York City. You smile and start walking and as you walk, viewing the path forward and the people on it with your keen sartorial lens, you notice the sharp idiosyncratic way the locals dress.

There is something about New York and fashion-a love story made up of whirlwind romance, nothing quite like the way we know of its relationship with other parts of the world. Fashion in NYC is laid back, but not in a I don’t care what I will throw on my back kind of way, in a way that one really does care what they put on for the day. Its effortlessly curated, chill to the point that it isn’t anymore, and there really is no other way to describe it. You either love it or you hate it and as for most fashion enthusiasts, the consensus lies in the former. Fashion is big in NYC and there are more than a handful of content creators really embodying the art of expressing through clothes. In the midst of the mosaic of Upper East Side glamorous influencers and Brooklyn based fashion stylists with an incredible taste, Corinne Collado caught our eye. Currently a student at FIT, Corinne’s eye for fashion is hard to miss even in her everyday routine. Her GRWM’s are not your usual–reflecting her life juggling between a fashion content creator and student against the cosy backdrop of her room. On a typical Monday, you would find her attending influencer events straight from the classroom– and the best part? Her outfit stays the same. This highlights the strength of her personal style—its foundations are so solid that she seamlessly transitions through the day without needing to change her outfit. There are three main pillars that make this foundation: a capsule wardrobe, layering, and accessories. Yes, as simple as that!
Corinne’s wardrobe is predominantly made up of casual, everyday staples that can be dressed up or down. Her ability to mix and match these pieces in conjunction with the other two foundations is what makes her personal style so eclectic and intriguing. She’s not doing much but at the same time the outfit says otherwise, as if she spent hours curating it to perfection. After putting on a base outfit, she goes on to layer it–switching it up between faux fur jackets, blazers, and sweaters. As finishing touches, you will never catch her without her bracelets, rings and an extensive eclectic mix of gold and silver jewellery.
Lately, IG algorithm gurus (self-proclaimed) have come up with what’s going to be the next chapter in content creation. Given the patterns of what is working and what isn’t, stats have shown that the audience enjoys relatability a whole lot more than watching ultra-wealthy influencers living their lives, which seem inaccessible and inexplicably far from what most know as reality. Relatability is on the rise, and habitual doom scrollers are flocking to what has been termed as a ‘comfort creator’ aka someone who evokes a sense of comfort, familiarity, and relatability with their content. In fashion, Corinne is a great example of a comfort creator. Her GRWM’s are shot against the backdrop of her cozy bedroom, no harsh lighting, no extra pizzazz, just her talking into the camera. Often, her partner makes a guest appearance and the content turns into us third wheeling–consumed, gushing and amazed at how both partners in a relationship can be so stylish. What makes her content binge-worthy apart from this, is her talking us through her thought process when styling an outfit, almost like she is talking to a friend. A comfort creator like Corinne embraces the imperfectness of it all, not looking like a photoshopped model on an editorial 24x7 but at the same time serving fashion in the best way possible.
There is no dearth of fashion content creators in NYC, but creators like Corinne are like a breath of fresh air in a landscape that is so saturated with influencers and their seemingly glamourous and flawless lives. With her very inimical personal style and very real interpersonal characteristic, Corinne stands out as an underrated creator who should be on your radar.
